One more week. Two incredible opportunities to dance.
We’re wrapping up an amazing summer at MBC with Shape Up for Nutcracker + Balanchine Week, August 17–20, and there’s still time to join us!
🩰 BALANCHINE WEEK | Ages 12–18 | 9:30am–1pm
Dive into the distinctive style, musicality, speed and artistry of George Balanchine with two extraordinary guest teachers whose careers are deeply connected to his work:
✨ Daniel Ulbricht trained at the School of American Ballet before joining New York City Ballet, where he was promoted to Principal Dancer in 2007. He is the Founder and Director of Stars of American Ballet, Artistic Advisor to Manhattan Youth Ballet, and Artistic Director of the New York State Summer School for the Arts.
✨ Leslie Peck trained with Andre Eglevsky and at the School of American Ballet before joining New York City Ballet under the direction of George Balanchine at just 17. Her career went on to include principal roles with Houston Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Richmond Ballet and Ballet International. A recognized authority on Balanchine repertory, she is one of the select artists authorized by the Balanchine Trust to stage his ballets.
🎄 SHAPE UP FOR NUTCRACKER | Ages 9–11 | 1:30–4pm
Nutcracker season will be here before we know it! Dancers will work with MBC’s Artistic Staff to strengthen technique, build confidence, learn choreography from MBC’s Nutcracker, and get a preview of what to expect at auditions and rehearsals this fall.
Both programs begin Monday, August 17.
There’s still time to grab a spot and finish summer dancing with us!

Get a head start on the season! Our four-day, pre-season intensive helps dancers return to the studio strong, confident, and ready for auditions. Younger dancers (ages 9–11) will learn choreography from Montana Ballet Company’s Nutcracker, while older dancers (ages 12–18) will immerse themselves in the speed, musicality, and precision of the Balanchine style through classes with special guest teachers Daniel Ulbricht and Leslie Peck.

✨ What an incredible few weeks of summer dance! ✨
From our youngest dancers in DUBS Jr., to three inspiring weeks of Dancing Under the Big Sky, to our wonderful Adult Intensive dancers, our studios have been filled with hard work, growth, artistry, laughter, and a whole lot of dancing.
We are so grateful to our exceptional guest faculty Carla Stallings, David Ingram, and Isabella LaFreniere, who shared their artistry, experience, and inspiration with our dancers, alongside MBC’s dedicated faculty and community partners.
And what better way to celebrate it all than together on the Cypress Stage at Sweet Pea Festival of the Arts?
To every dancer who showed up, worked hard, tried something new, pushed a little further, and supported the dancers beside them: we are so proud of you.
And to everyone who came out to watch, cheer, and celebrate with us at Sweet Pea, thank you!
There’s something pretty special about getting to share what happens inside our studios with our Bozeman community.
But summer dance isn’t quite finished yet!
Next up: Shape Up for Nutcracker and Balanchine Week, August 17–20 — one final week of dancing before we officially close out an amazing summer at MBC and turn our sights toward the season ahead. ✨

Three intensives. Three weeks of dancing. One final performance.
Tomorrow, we celebrate the culmination of an incredible summer of Dancing Under the Big Sky at the Sweet Pea Festival of the Arts!
From two weeks with our DUBS Junior dancers, to three weeks of our full DUBS Intensive, to this week’s Adult Intensive, our studios have been filled with dancers of different ages and stages learning, growing, creating, and sharing their love of dance.
Alongside MBC faculty, our dancers had the opportunity to learn from guest teachers Carla Stallings, David Ingram, and Isabella LaFreniere, as well as community partners including APRS Physical Therapy and Pursuit Dietetics. Their days have included ballet, contemporary, character, swing dance, variations, conditioning, injury prevention, nutrition, and so much more.
And tomorrow, they take it all to the stage!
The performance will include a very special sneak peek at Beneath, a new work by David Ingram that will have its world premiere on Montana Ballet Company this season as part of Montana Mix Vol. 1.
Set to Eric Funk’s evocative Trees, Op. 139, Beneath is a meditation on connection, inspired by the hidden architecture of the forest and the unseen relationships that sustain every community, every family, and every life. Our intensive students had the tremendous opportunity to step inside the creative process this summer, working with Mr. Ingram as they explored this new work, and we’re thrilled to share a glimpse of it with you tomorrow.
Come celebrate a summer of dance with us!

Whether they’re new to the ballet studio, returning to a previous passion, or continuing a lifelong journey, our Adult Summer Intensive dancers are proving that ballet truly is for everyone.
This week has been filled with ballet, conditioning, character, Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT), visits with physical therapist Kelsey Wadsworth of APRS and Cailyn Gillis of Pursuit Dietetics, pointe and pre-pointe, swing dance, and rehearsals as they prepare to perform at the Sweet Pea Festival of the Arts.
At MBC we believe that dance is for everyone, and that there is always more to learn, discover, and enjoy, at every age and every stage of life. Visit www.montanaballet.org for more information about our year-round adult options.
