Community Engagement

Montana Ballet Company’s Education and Community Engagement

Throughout the years, MBC has served the Greater Gallatin Valley and beyond by providing meaningful access to the arts through its Educational and Community Engagement programs. MBC’s Engagement programs support one of MBC’s goals, to provide for all children, families, and seniors the chance to experience the wonder of dance and live performances. We are proud to continue this tradition of giving back to our community.

MBC Moves

Educational Engagement Program

MBC MOVES is a Dance Residency program whose goal is to provide consistent dance education to children across our community and serve as a complementary element to Music and HE lessons. Available to Elementary Schools and non-profits that serve children, MBC MOVES is available as in-person, in-the-classroom education, live and interactive virtual programming, accessible recorded lessons, or a combination of all three.

In-person learning involves MBC Faculty visiting the classrooms and/or gymnasiums to work with each class. Virtual learning provides students access to a livestream “class” with Faculty teaching remotely from the MBC studios at a given time. In addition, “MBC Minute” Brain Breaks provide pre-recorded 10-15 minute activities that can be accessed via links to provide a movement break at any point throughout the school day or to get kids moving at home.

MBC MOVES is multi-disciplinary in nature with a focus on health and the correlation between wellness and exercise. MBC will partner with Nutritionists, Mental Health experts, Physical Therapists and other professionals to provide children a holistic and well-rounded experience.

Discover Dance

Educational Engagement Program

MBC’s Discover Dance program offers live, fully staged performance excerpts of classical ballets to elementary school students throughout the Gallatin Valley and beyond. Prior to each performance, school teachers are provided with a Teacher’s Guide for their classroom, so that students learn about the particular ballet and music, the classical ballet art form and vocabulary, and theater etiquette ahead of time.

Student audiences not only enjoy an excellent and enriching cultural event, they also have the opportunity to meet our Artistic Director, dancers, musicians and stage technicians and join MBC dancers for movement exercises with live music. Students also learn about all of the technical elements such as lighting, special effects and set changes, that come together to create a live arts production.

Following their trip to the theater, students engage in post-performance reflection through artwork and/or writing exercises. This allows students to express how their experience in the theater impacted them.

Share the Dance

Community Engagement Program

It is Montana Ballet Company’s (MBC) desire and goal to make our performances accessible to as many individuals and children in our community as possible. MBC’s Community Engagement program, Share the Dance, gives Gallatin Valley’s arts patrons a unique giving opportunity. Through Share the Dance, generous donors sponsor admission tickets for special groups to attend one of our performances. In this way, audiences who might not be able to attend otherwise can experience a magical performance of classical ballet.

Donations given to the Share the Dance program benefit various non-profit organizations, and donors may also designate an organization of their choice.

Participation in the Share the Dance program is a special way for individuals and corporations to touch someone’s life, and at the same time, express their support and appreciation of the arts in the Gallatin Valley.

Share the Dance & Dinner

Community Engagement Program

Montana Ballet Company is grateful to our community for its immense and consistent support. Our Share the Dance & Dinner program was created to support those in our community experiencing food insecurity. Through partnerships with local nonprofits working tirelessly to gather and distribute food to those in need, MBC dancers and staff assist with food drives, packing food and groceries, and making deliveries, all the while adding some dance to the recipe. Should your organization need volunteer assistance, please call Leigh Ripley at 406.582.8702.

The Ann Bates
Memorial Children’s

Ann Bates, founder of Montana Ballet Company, had a vision to bring world-class dance to a region of the world that, prior to the founding of Montana Ballet, had for too long gone without it. She also had the talent, creativity and the persistence to make that vision a reality for hundreds of thousands of students and audience members alike. She brought some of the nation’s finest dancers and teachers to Montana. She wanted dance students to grow in their skills and audience members to grow in their love for the art form. Ann Bates’ vision to create a sustainable dance arts organization has thrived for over 35 years.

The Ann Bates program for children supports dance training, provides performance opportunities and develops arts education outreach for Gallatin Valley children.
